Harbin Getaway

One word to describe Harbin: IMPRESSIVE!  Ice displays, sculptures and cold! and it wasn’t even the lowest it gets, but definitely is worth the experience.

Una palabra para describir Harbin: IMPRESIONANTE! sus esculturas de hielo y nieve y el frío, que ni siquiera estaba en su punto máximo pero definitivamente vale la pena la experiencia.

用一个词来形容哈尔滨：印象深刻！令人印象深刻的冰雕，寒冷，甚至不是最低温，但绝对值得体验。

 

What to Wear 

• Heat tech clothes (Uniqlo, North Face) as base layer
• Polyester thin second layer  (warmer than cotton)
• Wool or similar fabric shirt/sweater
• Long waterproof jacket /parka
• Warmer pads for each hand and body patches in your boots and in low back (keep some spare ones in your bag)
• 3 pair of socks
• Beanie or ear warmer + thick scarf + gloves
• Snow boots (look for sales at Decathlon i.e Quechua boots)

Maybe it sounds too much, but it is what worked for us (kind of). Remember you will be outdoors the majority of the time surrounded by ice and humidity.

Que Ropa Usar

• Ropa térmica como base
• Blusa o playera delgada de poliester (es más caliente que el algodón)
• Suéter de lana como tercera capa
• Chamarra gruesa e impermeable 
• Parches calientes para las manos, otros para los zapatos y para la espalda baja o abdomen (traigan unos extras en su bolsa)
• 3 pares de calcetines
• Gorro u orejeras, guantes y bufanda gruesa 
• Botas para nieve (busquen ofertas en Decathlon como las botas de Quechua)

Parece mucho pero es lo que a nosotros nos funcionó. Recuerden que van a estar en el exterior casi todo el tiempo rodeados de hielo y humedad.

• 第一层穿热技术的衣服（Uniqlo, North Face）
• 第二层穿聚酯薄（比棉暖）
• 羊毛或类似织物衬衫/毛衣
• 长夹克衫/大衣
• 在你的靴子，背部，手垫上暖宝宝（在袋子里准备一些备用）
• 3双袜子
• 耳包+厚围巾+手套
• 雪地靴（在Decathlon找打折的靴子，例如Quechua靴）

也许这听起来太可怕，但对我们来说是有用的（是吧）你在户外的大部分时间都会被冰和湿气包围。

How to move around

People with at least some experience living in China will find this place easier to move, however for those who are stepping ground for the first time and don´t speak any other word than “Nihao” may find it more challenging. My recommendation for those with children or big families is to hire a driver/tour guide in advance. Prices are around 1500 – 2000 rmb for a 2 day Van trip.

But, if you are like us that want to follow their own pace, there’s a bus that takes you from the airport to downtown (central street) and the frequency of departure depends on how quickly the bus gets full. (20rmb one way trip)

Save the main attractions’ name and address in chinese so you can show it to any taxi in the street (make sure he puts the meter on). Don’t be surprised, it’s a common practice to share the ride with someone else (even so the fare won´t be splitted)

Como moverte en la ciudad 

Para aquellos que han vivido al menos un tiempo en China no tendrán muchas dificultades para moverse. Sin embargo, los que visitan este país por primera vez y no saben una palabra más allá de “Nihao” podrían tener algunas dificultades. Mi recomendación para los que tienen hijos ó van con familias grandes es contratar a un chofer/guía con anticipación. Los precios están alrededor de 1500 -2000 rmb por una camioneta por dos días. 

Pero, si eres como nosotros que quiere ir a su propio ritmo, hay un autobus que te lleva del aeropuerto a la calle central y la frecuencia de salidas depende de que tan rápido se llene. (20 rmb por viaje sencillo)

Guarda el nombre y las direcciones de los lugares que quieras visitar en chino para que puedas mostrarlo a cualquier taxista en la calle. (solo asegúrate que ponga el taxímetro) Es común que el taxi se comparta con otras personas aunque seguirás pagando la tarifa completa.

如何走动

有一些中国生活经验的人会发现这个地方溜达起来很容易，但是对于那些除了“你好”，不会说任何其他中文的人可能会发现更具挑战性。我对那些有孩子或大家庭的人的建议是事先雇一名司机/导游。价格为1500 – 2000元人民币，2天的面包车行程。

如果你像我们一样，要自助游，可以程一个巴士，从机场到市中心（中央大街）取决于如何迅速挤上车。（一个单程20rmb）
保存主要景点的名称和地址，所以你可以给出租车司机地址（确保他有打表）。不要惊讶，与别人分享一辆出租车是一种常见的做法（但票价不平分）

Must places to visit

• Cable car:  You can take it in Tongjiang street. (downtown) and it crosses Songhua frozen river.
• Sun Island: Mainly displaying snow sculptures.
• Harbin Ice & Snow World: A city made out of ice blocks lighted up in colors and several Slips ( To get there from Sun island just take a cab. Is just a 5 min ride and shouldn’t cost more than 20rmb)
• Tiger park: Mixed feelings about this, seems the tigers are in pretty good condition however is captivity at the end.
• Zhongyang road: Pedestrian street for souvenir shopping and good local food.
• St. Sophia church: Not a church anymore but you’ll find a small museum inside.

Lugares que debes visitar 

• Teleférico: Un paseo que cruza el rio congelado de Songhua conectando el centro de la ciudad con los parques (la estación se encuentra en la calle de Tongjiang)
• Sun Island: Principalmente muestra esculturas hechas de nieve.  
• Harbin Snow and Ice World: Una ciudad hecha de bloques de hielo con iluminación de colores y varias resbaladillas (Para llegar ahí del primer parque tomen un taxi en la salida. No hará más de 5 min y la tarifa es de 20rmb)
• Parque de los Tigres Siberianos: Tengo sentimientos encontrados con este lugar porque aunque se ve que cuidan muy bien a los tigres y el espacio es bastante grande, sigue siendo cautiverio al final.
• La calle peatonal Zhongyang: Puedes comprar souvenirs y encontrar buena comida local.
• La Iglesia de Sophia: Ya no es una iglesia pero encontrarás un pequeño museo adentro.

必须去的地方

• 缆车：您可以去Tongjiang 街（市区）并且穿越松花江。
• 太阳岛：主要展出雪雕
• 哈尔滨冰雪大世界：五颜六色的冰雕和几个滑冰赛道（去太阳岛只需要坐出租车。是一个5分钟车程，不超过20元）
• 虎园：很复杂的感情，似乎他们有非常好的生活条件不过还是被囚禁了。
• Zhongyang 路：步行街有纪念品购物和当地食物。
• 圣索菲亚教堂：不再是教堂，你会在里面找到一个小博物馆。

Other Tips 

• We went there late February, and although some sculptures were starting to melt the majority remained in good shape, don’t get discouraged if others tell you not to go anymore. In fact you’ll find that overall prices are lower and less people in the parks.
• Paste a body patch to the back of your cellphone so it won’t turn off whenever you are taking photos.
• It’s always good to carry some chocolate and sweets to keep eating as your calories are fast burning.

Otros tips 

• Nosotros lo acabamos de visitar (finales de Febrero) y aunque algunas esculturas ya comienzan a deshacerse, la gran mayoría siguen en buenas condiciones. No te desmotives si alguien más te dice que ya no vale la pena. De hecho los precios son más bajos y hay menos gente en los parques. 
• Pega uno de los parches calientes a la parte de atrás del celular para que no se apague cada vez que lo saques para tomar fotos.
• Siempre es bueno que lleven con ustedes chocolates o frutas secas para que estén comiendo durante el día

• 我们二月下旬去了那里，虽然一些雕塑开始融化，但大多数保持良好的状态，如果别人告诉你不要去了，不要气馁。公园的门票价格会越来越低。
• 将暖宝宝贴到你手机的背面，所以它不会在你拍照的时候关机。
